These are Mary Elizabeth Reagan's first booties, no doubt made by her mother. They look brand new as of January, 2009. Mary Elizabeth was born on October 3, 1899. The note pinned to the booties was probably made by someone else. It's on blue-lined note paper, hand-written in pencil. It says: "Aunt Mary. Mary Regan's first shoes." The shoes were in the box shown on this page when we first saw them. The box is approximately 3-5/8" X 6" and is 5/8" high. It says: "Curtiss Bittersweet Chocolate Caramels. 15 Delicious Pieces. Full 1/5 Pound. 5 cents." On one end of the box it says "Curtiss Candy Company. Otto Schnering, President, Chicago." On the other end of the box it says the same thing. This box probably has nothing to do with Alice Gilchrist Reagan, but who knows. They were obviously saved inside this box for many years, though.
